Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the Adult Learning Cardiff website.

This website is run by Cardiff Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings,
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen,
  • navigate the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software, and
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).

We have also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you are not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Cardiff Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is fully compliant with the [Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard or Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard].

Please note, our learner enrolment portal available on a separate website address is partially compliant with the [Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard or Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard], due to the non-compliances identified below.

Non-accessible content on the third party application

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • Some content is inaccessible at 400% magnification as it results in horizontal scrolling. This fails success criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow).
  • Colour contrasts do not meet minimum values. This fails success criterion 2.4.13 (Focus appearance).
  • Tables are missing headers. This fails success criterion 1.3.1 (Table headers).
  • Aria labels are missing. This fails success criterion 2.0 4.1.2 (Aria labels).
  • Line height is below minimum value. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.12 (Text spacing).
  • Some images are missing a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

As of 14 December 2023, we have raised the non-compliance with the third-party supplier who provides this application. We have also requested that the application portal has its own published accessibility statement. We aim to resolve these issues by April 2024.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

We provide support and training to those who administer the website, to ensure standards are retained when updating the website. We will review the site periodically.
